CurbyMcLintock was appointed by the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority, through external counsel, to provide investigative support to the Bergin Inquiry established to address serious allegations against Crown Casino in Sydney. As part of this engagement, the team was required to conduct detailed inquiries into the suitability of individuals and entities associated with the proposed purchaser of a portion of Crown.
The work involved analysing substantial volumes of corporate records and publicly available information to assess potential connections to organised crime, including money-laundering networks and other high-risk associations. Investigators examined complex ownership structures, historical relationships, and cross-border business activities to identify red flags and integrity concerns.
Discrete reports were prepared outlining the findings of each inquiry, supported by visual mapping using i2 charts to clearly illustrate relationships between key individuals and entities. The investigation spanned multiple international jurisdictions, requiring careful examination of historical and contemporary links to ensure an accurate and comprehensive assessment of risk.
